Festival on the Plaza following the Parade!

If you’re looking for something fun to do in Cortez after the Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 6, 2014 join the Cortez Cultural Center for the lighting of the Tree on the Plaza, and/or come by after the parade and enjoy live music! Local groups will be performing and singing Christmas songs.

There is no fee to attend the post-parade festivities, but if you’re in need of refreshments, hot cocoa and fry bread will be available for sale, or you can purchase a pizza from Sweetwater Gypsies.

The Cortez Cultural Center and Children’s Kiva will also be auctioning off 3 live, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Kiva PTO and tuition assistance.

Help us decorate our float for the Parade of Lights, and get an opportunity to join us on the float during the parade on Dec. 6th!

We look forward to creating a “rocking” great float with you. Dinner provided – children must be accompanied by parents.

Kids, monsters and ghouls ages 0 – 5 and their sibling are welcome with or without a costume. Must be accompanied by an adult.

September Storytime: Grab Bag Surprise!

The September theme of the Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library is “Grab Bag Surprise!”

The preschool Storytime program is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Older children are welcome to join us for a craft at 11:15 a.m.

The Cortez Public Library also offers a Storytime at the Cortez Farmers Market every Saturday at 10:30 a.m., weather permitting. The Farmers Market Storytime follows the same theme each week as our regular preschool Storytime.

“Falling Leaves”: Thurs., Oct. 2nd and Sat., Oct. 4th
“Let’s Talk About Strangers”: Thurs., Oct. 9th and Sat., Oct. 11th
“Weather Forecast”: Thurs., Oct. 16th and Sat., Oct. 18th
“Celebrate Blue”: Thurs., Oct. 23rd and Sat., Oct. 25th
“Rabbits”: Thurs., Oct. 30th and Sat., Nov. 1st.

Raising Readers Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and uses the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative program. For more information, contact the library at 970-565-8117.

The Cortez Public Library is located at 202 N. Park St. in Cortez, Colorado.

2014 SW District CAEYC Conference

The 4th Annual Southwest District CAEYC Conference will be held on Saturday, November 1 at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Pam Schiller will be the keynote, and there will be breakout sessions on topics of interest to all early childhood professionals.

Registration and payment must be received by October 17, 2014.

Seating is limited, and there will be no registration at the door. Prices include lunch and 7.5 training hours.

Registration with CAEYC or NAEYC membership: $45

Regular registration price: $65

Registration and CAEYC membership: $95

Make payable to SW District CAEYC.

**Scholarships available for a select few willing to volunteer throughout the conference. If interested please send an email with a short essay explaining why you feel you would be a good candidate for a scholarship to Heather Hentz. Limited scholarships available.
