In early care and education environments, the number of children compared to the number of caregivers is an important quality indicator. It makes sense that more caregivers and fewer children will mean that children get more individualized attention, time, and responsive care. Ratio is specified by type of facility and age of children by the State of Colorado. In order to be licensed a facility must meet these requirements. Many rating and accreditation organizations recommend stricter standards (higher ratios of adults to children) than Colorado requires for licensing.
